Virtual Surgical Planning in complex malocclusion cases. A multidisciplinary approach.
A good communication between the orthodontist and the surgeon is essential to obtain the right result when treating patients with malocclusion.
The complexity of ortho-surgical case increase when other pathologies are associated. Missing teeth are usually replaced by implants and to decide their final position is not easy. This has to be correlated with the teeth and jaw movements in order to get a good symmetry and the right occlusion.
The possibility to play in all 6 directions with the bone support, the optional multisegmented maxilla and the need for correction of the transverse discrepancy are important factors to be taken in consideration when we plan and treat such particular deformity patients.
For more predictable results specific software are mandatory to be used not only in Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) but also in deciding the implant position.
